István Chernel

István Chernel , born the May 31st 1865 with KŒszeg (Hungary) and dead the February 21st 1922 in this same city, is a ornithologist Hungarian.

His/her father is Kálmán Chernel (1822-1891), a historian which is also interested in the Ornithologie, which initiates it with the observation of the Oiseau X. István starts to daily observe the birds as of the 12 years age.

It makes studies of right to Pozsony (Bratislava, today in Slovakia) and to Budapest. After the end of those, it turns over to Kőszeg and is devoted to ornithology.

In 1891, it travels in Norway during which it makes observations on geology and the geography. It contributes to the popularization of the Ski, in particular by writing a book on this discipline.

In 1899, it makes appear an important work on the birds, the first ornithological book signed by Hungarian, who synthesizes 22 years of assiduous observations. He pleads the economic importance of the birds and contributes to a revival with regard to the environment, preceding ecology.

In 1916, it directs the royal ornithological Center of Hungary and publishes, in 1918, a catalog of the birds of its country.
