History

Origin of the name of the city

In the beginning, Issy-les-Moulineaux was called simply Issy, this name perhaps coming from medieval Latin Issiacum or Isciacum , “field of Isicius”, a landowner Gallo-Roman.

It is into 1893 that Issy takes officially the name of Issy-les-Moulineaux . Moulineaux was the name of a small hamlet on the territory of the commune, called thus thanks to the mills which had been held there.

The princes de Conti

The house of Conti, connects junior by the Maison of Bourbon and resulting from the Maison from Cop, were composed of many properties, of which the castle of Issy, now destroyed and replaced by the French Musée of the Chart To play, where there still remains a tower.
