Issou

Issou is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at 6 km in the east of Mantes-the-Pretty.

The commune of Issou is candidate at the entry in 2005 in the perimeter of the Regional natural park of French Vexin at the time of the revision in the course of the charter of the park undertaken by the Île-de-France area.

The origin of the name of Issou is discussed. It could derive either from a Gallic term, ux , raised place, or of the last participle of the verb “sourdre”, resulting.

The inhabitants are called Issoussois.

Geography

Located in the north of the department of Yvelines, on Right Bank of the the Seine, Issou is a largely urbanized commune. It is bordering on Guitrancourt in the North-West, of Porcheville in south-west, Gargenville in the east. In the south, it is separated by the Seine from the Wall-on-Seine.

The commune is served by the secondary road which connect Meulan to Limay and by the railway Paris-Saint-Lazare - Mantes-the-Pretty via Conflans-Holy-Honorine ( Gare of Issou - Porcheville ).

History

Culture

  • Saint Martin's day Church: church hones Meulière of it dating from the 12th century, altered with 15th and 16th centuries. It underwent an important restoration in 1970.
  • Castle of Issou: construction renovated in 1903 in the style of the 18th century, the castle is dilapidated today. There remains a square tower, vestige of the old feudal manor dating from the 16th century and a round dovecote which were renovated at the end of the years 1990. The park of the castle, classified by the department of Yvelines extends on 11 hectares.

Economy

  • Aménagement of a ZAC since 1990.
  • industrial Park enters the railway and the Seine (paper recycling, oil terminal…).
