The toponym Issor appears in the forms Isoo (XIIIe century, for of Barétous), Içor (1270, titles of the Vallée of Ossau), Issoo in Baratos (1385, censier of Béarn), Ysoo (XIVe century, censier of Béarn), Yssoo (1444, registers of the Majour Court), Yssor and Ysso (1538, reformation of Béarn), Sent Joan d' Isso (1655, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron).

Religious heritage

  • Parish church Saint-Jean-the Evangelist, rebuilt in 1687. The bell-tower was built in 1924.

Sports events

The commune is located on the way of the 16th stage of the Tour de France 2007 which will take place on July 25th. The course of 218 kilometers will connect Orthez to Gourette - Collar of Aubisque.
