Isparta

Isparta ( Sparte ) is a town of Turkey, Préfecture of the Province of the same name.

Geography

Isparta is located at the center of the Area of the lakes (Göller Bolgesi) on the high plateaus of the chain of Taurus (Toros Dağları) .

The reputation of Isparta comes from the oil of pink obtained from a variety called the “  pinks of summer of Damas  ” ( Rosa damascena ) which pushes with profusion in the area in the gardens and the fields in terraces of the soft slopes of the mountains. The pinks are early gathered the morning when they are with-half open and that their perfume is more embaumant. The oil of pink is produced by the distillation of the petals subjected to a strong vapor in copper tanks. This vapor condenses and is collected in large bottles, producing the water of pink, but a fine applelée yellow oil film “  Gul yağı  ” in Turkish or rose oil, floats on the surface. This oil of a great value is used in cosmetic industry. The near total of the quantity manufactured is exported in France, with Grasse, the city of the perfume.

Isparta is also famous for its carpets with long hairs.

History

After the collapse of the Sultanate seldjoukide of Roum, Isparta became the capital of the Principality of Hamitoğlu which was delimited by the four big lakes of the area. In 1381, Isparta was sold to the Othoman sultan Murat I {{er}}.

Tourism

The old monuments of the city are the castle seldjoukide 14th century century, the large Mosque (Ulu camii 1417), the Bazaar (Bedesten 1561) Othoman, and the Mosque Firdevs Paşa built by Mimar Sinan. In the south of Isparta, 1  405 m of altitude, are the Lake Gölcük surrounded by aromatic pines.

The Festival of the Carpet and the Rose takes place each year in July in Isparta.

The prefecture is in Isparta, the sub-prefectures are: Aksu, Atabey, Eğridir, Gelendost, Gönen, Keçiborlu, Senirkent, Sütçüler, Şarkikarağaç, Uluborlu, Yalvaç, Yenişarbademli.
