Iso-octane

The 2.2.4-triméthylpentane , of the family of the Hydrocarbon S and Empirical formula C8H18. Iso-octane is a Isomère of the Octane

Uses

Iso-octane is a type of fuel with eight carbons. The gasoline is a mixture of various molecules like octane. Some of them (the such ordinary Octane) are rectilinear carbonaceous chains. The iso-octane (example of Hydrocarbon to ramified chain) present of the junctions and is regarded as one of best the Carburant S insofar as it burns uniformly. Contrary to the hydrocarbons with right chain which ignite while exploding inside the engines, the hydrocarbons with ramified chain burn gently by heating gas in the cylinder and thus exert a constant pressure on the piston. The aptitude to be burned gently is `the number octane' of the fuel: 100 for iso-octane.

The Heptane (7 carbon atoms) does nothing but explode: octane number = 0. A fuel of index 95 contains the equivalent of 95% of iso-octane and heptane 5%.
