Ismail Kadare
Ismail Kadare (often spelled Kadaré in French) is a writer Albanian, born on January 28th 1936 in Gjirokastër, in the south of Albania.
He studied the letters at the University of Tirana, then at the Gorki Institute of Moscow. In 1960, the rupture with the Soviet Union obliged it to return to Albania, where it started a career of journalist. It started to write very young person, as of the middle of the years 1950, but initially published only some poetries.
In 1963, the publication of its first novel, the General dead , brought the fame to him, initially to Albania, then abroad.
It obtained the political asylum in France in October 1990.
Its considerable work mixes Romance, news, poetry and theater. Its essential topics are the history of Balkans, the modern history of Albania, the nonsense of totalitarianism, the old legends.
In 2005, he is prize winner of the prestigious Man Booker International .
He is regarded as the Albanian great writer and one of the alive great writers of the world.
Publications
Complete works (except for the tests) of Ismail Kadaré were published by the Fayard editions, simultaneously in French and Albanian, between 1993 and 2004.
The publication dates given here are those of the first publication in Albanian, except contrary mention. Kadaré often altered its writings, and the new editions can comprise important differences with the text in origin.
