Isle merry (Debussy)

Isle merry is a part for piano of Claude Debussy published in 1904 with Masques .

Both seem to be outlined earlier, when Debussy wrote, about 1890, its melodies on texts of Verlaine. Isle merry was inspired by a work of Watteau of 1717, the Loading for Cythère. It was created on February 10th 1905 by the Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes. The execution time is of approximately 5 minutes.

The coloured and brilliant partition of Isle merry where the pianist is invited to modify his sonority unceasingly and to show smoothness in the play, could illustrate frivolity, unconcern, the escape.

The short introduction on a trille is followed of an entertainment on a rate/rhythm of Habanera; then a long volutptueuse sentence develops, which finishes on final very sharp and brilliance. Debussy engages in a new sound universe with in particular the important use of the range by tons and the recourse to new musical colors.
