Islands of peace

Îles of peace is a Governmental organization having for vocation the development, founded by the Belgian Dominicain Dominique Pire, Nobel Prize of peace in 1958.

History

“Islands of Peace” is the name of a project Caritatif which was founded in 1965, three years after a first experiment of ground had made it possible to validate the relevance of the approach imagined by Dominique Pire: taking into account of an interaction peace - development, strategy resting on the " Coil help " , step being based on the will and lived of the populations, consolidated by a technical and methodological accompaniment rigorous.

Anchoring sociétal of Islands of Peace lies at the beginning in the adhesion which caused Dominique Pire with the whole of his socio-economic initiatives (Family Support service, Aide with the Displaced persons, Iles of Peace) and educational (University of Peace), in Europe and in certain countries of the Tiers-Monde.

Main aims

The logic which underlies the step of the Islands of Peace holds in this famous formula from now on: To act without knowing is an imprudence, knowledge without acting is a cowardice. Îles of Peace considers that each human being is the engine of its destiny and the person in charge of its development. Islands of Peace wish to allow populations, as well South as North, in the respect of their specificities, to play an active role and person in charge in the improvement of the living conditions.
