Islands (group)
Islands is a group Indie rock'n'roll of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, founded in 2005 by two former members of the late trio The Unicorns, dissolved in December 2004.
Personnel
Islands is rested by the singer and guitarist Nick Diamonds (of its true name Nicholas Thorburn) and the beater I like Tambeur (Jaime Thompson), both old of the group The Unicorns . Are added to the group: the bass player Patrice Agbokou and the guitarist Jim Guthrie. Two violoncellists, Alex Chow and Sebastian Chow, joined the formation thereafter, as well as a clarinettist, Patrick Gregoire. Tambor announced his departure with the autumn 2006.
Beginnings
Islands is related to the local high-speed motorboats The Arcade Fire. The latter ensured the first part of Unicorns]] the United States before being a considerable critical success with their album Funeral , launched in September 2004.Richard Reed Parry, of The Arcade Fire, worked with the production of the first album of Islands .
Notwithstanding the local notoriety already acquired within Unicorns, Islands could be made known without same having recordings available, by giving several spectacles surprised to Montreal during the year 2005. In October, it ensured the first part of Beck the Center Bell within the framework of the festival Pop Montreal. It also occurred with the popular Canadian indie-rock'n'roll groups Metric and Broken Social Scene. Some songs were distributed on Internet and Islands could profit from an appreciable support of influential the Webzine Pitchfork during its first year of existence.
Return to the Sea
The first album Return To The Sea was launched on February 17th, 2006 in Montreal, the beginning of a round of about thirty spectacles through the Canada and the the United States. Return To The Sea is appeared thereafter in England on April 3rd, 2006 over the label Rough Trade and on April 4th, 2006 in the United States on the new label Equator Records.
Islands took part festival South by Southwest (SXSW) of Austin, Texas in March 2006, in company of another group montréalais, We Are Wolves.
