Island of the South
The island of the South is one of the two principal islands of the New Zealand, the other being the island of North.
At the 19th century several charts indicated the island of the South under the name of Middle Island or New Ulster, and the name island of the South (or New Leinster) was allotted to what is today the Île Stewart.
The island of the South is the 12th larger island in the world. Along its west coast are the chain of the the Alps of the South whose Mont Cook is the top dominating, to 3754 meters.
