Island of Puteaux
The island of Puteaux is an island of the the Seine located in the Hauts-de-Seine, divided between the communes of Puteaux (5/6e of the south-western surface) and Neuilly (the north-eastern 1/6e).
It follows a north-eastern south-western axis over a length of more than 2km. Its north-eastern end is crossed by the bridge of Neuilly, road bridge (RN13) and railway (line 1 of the subway) which opposite connects Neuilly to the district of Defense. Its south-western end which deals with Suresnes in the west and the Bois de Boulogne in the east, is used as fulcrum with the locks of Suresnes which close the 2 arms of the Seine to its height.
The island is not inhabited but includes/understands several sports equipment:
- the south-western part shelters a park of the sports interdépartemental (managed by the SIPS, a common structure between Paris and the department of the Hauts-de-Seine which manages also the park of Antony) including/understanding 6 football fields, 24 courts of tennis, a practice of golf and some adventure playgrounds.
- On the central part (in the North-East of the bridge of Puteaux) is a gymnasium as well as the " Palate of the sports" , a complex of the town of Puteaux, with a swimming pool of several basins, interiors and outsides, and rooms of gym, open in July 2006 to replace an old swimming pool of summer.
- With the north-eastern point, left neuilléenne called island the Bridge , right before the bridge of Neuilly, is a large building sheltering another sports complex. Under the arches of the bridge were also installed covered tennis.
One also finds on the island:
- a municipal of Puteaux, the Lebaudy park, known public garden for its rosery (between the Sport hall and sports complex of Neuilly)
- a public garden at the north-eastern end on the part of Neuilly, other with dimensions of the Bridge of Neuilly.
The accesses to the island are done with its Eastern point by the bridge of Neuilly but which allows only one pedestrian access by a staircase and in its center by the bridge of Puteaux (built in the years 1970 to replace the old bridge) which connects the island of with dimensions to the quays of Puteaux and other with the wood of Boulogne.
History
The Viscount Leon de Janzé founds in 1873 the sporting Company of the Island of Puteaux with the creation of one of very first the " club" tennis in France. The island accommodated tests of the Olympic Games of Paris in 1900 of which the competitions of tennis. It was to consider a time to build the stage there to shelter the Football world cup of 1938.The island lodged an establishment of the Parfums Coty whose principal factory was located not far, with Suresnes.
The island knew a sque history Clochemerle in 2005 with the construction of a fence of 2m60 height to the delimitation of the two communes following a dissension between these last.
