Island of Nantes

The island of Nantes is a river island located in the course of the the Loire, with Nantes, in France. It is enclosed by two arms of the river: that of “the Madeleine” to the north and that of “Pirmil” in the south.

Presentation

The island was born from the meeting of an old whole of islands initially separated by arms of the Loire filled throughout the XIX and XXème centuries, like the island Beaulieu, the island Holy-Anne, the meadow with the Duke, the meadow of Downstream, the meadow of Upstream, the peerage of Balagué or the meadow of Biesse. The toponym of island of Nantes is relatively recent, this is why, a great number of Nantes continue to call it “the Beaulieu island”.

It constitutes one of the 11 districts of the city.

This island is the framework of a large building site of urban renovation, whose control of work is ensured by the SAMOA (Société of mixed economy created for the occasion) and controls it of work is managed by the team of Alexandre Chemetoff (Workshop Island of Nantes). It is within this framework that it must also accommodate part of new the Quartier of businesses: Euronantes which currently in the course of construction on the old site of the Tripod .
