Island of Bouin

The Île of Bouin does not exist any more as a such. It belonged to a vast zone of Marais located around Bouin, separated from the continent by the course of the Dain. It was victim of silting and massively polderized.

Before 1789, Bouin belonged to the évêché of Nantes. Politically, it belonged to the Marches of Brittany, therefore concerned at the same time the Poitou and the Brittany. In 1789, its representatives asked, in vain, that it be attached to the department Loire-Inférieure (chief town: Nantes).

Before the creation of the Dam protecting the Breton Marsh from the Tidal wave, Bouin was on an island: the Island of Bouin. Thanks to the dam there was a empoldering with the ground profit on the Baie of Bourgneuf.

The island of Bouin is plundered and set fire to by the Viking S in 813.

This island profited as of the 14th century from the insular franknesses, favourable with the development of the Contrebande. At the 17th century, as on Yeu, the islanders made push their own seedlings of Tabac. The clandestine trade became so flourishing that they had to launch out in the massive importation. Companies of " forgery tabatiers" , implying all the layers of the company ilienne, were created to control the traffic. The Bateau X from went away by Flottille S towards North to bring back " bon" tobacco, stored then in Warehouse S.
