The island of Bananal ( Ilha C Bananal in Portuguese) is with the Brésil, in the State of the Tocantins in the middle of two very broad arms of the Rio Araguaia. It is the largest river island in the world with a surface of: 19162  km (approximately twice that of Lebanon or Jamaica) being 350 km long for 55 km broad. With January to March, it is partially covered by the winter rising of Rio Araguaia. No bridge exists to reach the island but during the dry season from June to August, the level of water by place is sufficiently low for an access in the cross-country car.

One the northern third of the island became the national park of Araguaia, southern two thirds being indigenous concerning the tribes Carajás and Javaés.
