Island Punt (River of the Rampart)

The island Plate is a uninhabited island located at the north of the Mauritius and depend on the République of Maurice.

When the March 15th 1801 the island was approached by the Expédition Baudin, the French Jean-Baptiste Bory of Saint-Vincent described it since the Naturaliste by affirming that it is “ much less low than the other its vicinity; a beach of Calcaire makes by far it remarkable, and appears of a dazzling Blanc hor: the remainder of its rocks is reddish or black ”. To explain these last colors, he convenes in his Voyage in the four principal islands of the seas of Africa certain Lilet, officer of genious which would have visited the shelf and said to him there to have found the remains of an old crater of Volcan.
