Island Alms
The island Alms is a island of the the Seine, long approximately two kilometers, located in the Yvelines between Mantes-the-Pretty and Limay, downstream from the close island with the Ladies. It is attached administratively to the common of Mantes-the-Pretty. This island is not connected directly to banks of the Seine: it is accessible only by one bridge which connects it itself to the island with the Ladies.
Its upstream part is urbanized and occupied on 8 hectares by the Exhibition site of Mantes-the-Pretty. Its downstream part remained in a natural state and point of disjunction since 1996 an ornithological reserve. The maintenance of this part of the island east ensured by the pasturage of animals in freedom: horses camarguais and Vache S Scottish highland. A pond of one hectare and half was also dug to support the lodging of the Oiseau X watery.
