Isbergues

Isbergues is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called Isberguois.

To 230 km of Paris, to 65 km of Lille, Calais, Boulogne-sur-Mer, with 57km of Arras

History

Importance of the legend of holy Isbergues, girl of Pip the Brief and sister of Charlemagne, which had as a virtue to cure the Maladie S of skin. The Seigneurie concerned Nedonchel and the Sergeant.

Industrial development from 19th. Berguette, seigniory of the Abbey of Ham (ajourd' today Ham-in-Artois). Berguette took a certain importance thanks to the vicinity of Isbergues. Molinghem, in the past “Molingahem”, quoted in 1083. The seigniory, which depended on Lens and Bournonville, was set up in Marquisat in 1654.

The communes of Molinghem, Berguette and Isbergues were joined together in a commune which took the name of Isbergues on January 1st 1996.

  • sadly celebrates Chauffeur François-Marie Salembier was born in Isbergues in 1764.

Grand Prix of Isbergues

Article detailed Grand Prix of Isbergues

The Grand Prix of Isbergues is a Cycle race created in 1945 in the district of Bridge-with-Balque. The municipality officialized the event in 1947. It is the only exclusively professional race of the Pas-de-Calais. It is classified 1.1 by UCI and it is registered with the calendar of the UCI Europe Tower.

It is also registered like test cash for the Coupe de France of cycling.

The Grand Prix of Isbergues knew great champions like Anquetil, Poulidor, Eddy Merckx or Hinault and Lemond.

Open city

This annual festival proceeds each year at the beginning of September and joins together many animations.
