Isabelle of Angouleme

Isabelle of Angouleme (v. 1186 - † May 31st 1246), buried in the Abbey of Fontevraud. It is the only daughter of the count d' Angoulême Aymar Taillefer and of Alice de Courtenay, grand-daughter of the king de France Louis VI.

Promised with Hugues X of Lusignan, count of Walk, the king d' Angleterre, Jean without Ground withdraws it from its been engaged and in August 1200 with Bordeaux or Chinon marries it. This adventure gave place to many more or less discussed accounts. Did Y have it agreement between the parts or abduction? A local, popular version and with romantic connotation, leans obviously for removal. To Angouleme, a small narrow street and very inclined, which goes down to Charente, close to the old abbey of Cybard Saint passes to be the way borrowed by the fuyards.

The Isabelle young person of Angouleme thus becomes Queen of England at the 14 years age. To died of Jean without Ground in 1216, while his/her oldest son becomes king d' Angleterre under the name of Henri III, it returns to France and wife her old promised in marriage Hugues X of Lusignan.
C' is undoubtedly under its influence that Henri III of England and Hugues de Lusignan will organize a common front against the king of France Louis IX. However this last will beat united with Taillebourg (Charente Maritime) July 21st and 22nd 1242. Following this defeat Hugues de Lusignan will make allegiance with king de France. During the meeting, Isabelle, who wanted to always carry the title of queen, would have tried to make poison without success Louis IX.
Elle died in 1245 and was initially buried in a vault of the abbey of the Crown (Charente), then called Saint Nicolasavant to be transferred to Fontevraud.
