Isabelle Stengers

Isabelle Stengers , born in 1949 is a Belgian Philosophe .

Laid off in Chemistry of the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles, reader of Whitehead, Simondon and Starhawk, collaborator regular of the review Multitudes , it teaches the Philosophie of sciences to the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles. Member of the committee of orientation of Cosmopolitiques . Isabelle Stengers is known for its first work, New Alliance (1979), Co-writing with the Nobel Prize Ilya Prigogine. She was then interested, by calling inter alia upon the theories of Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze, with the criticism of the authoritative claim of modern science. Stengers thus underlines the omnipresence of the Argument of authority in science, thus when one calls upon the “experts” to slice the debate, as if there were not a real political disagreement with the source of the debate itself. She then worked on the history of the Psychanalyse and in particular of repression, by the latter, of the Hypnose, meeting by this skew Leon Chertok.

In 1990, it is at the origin with Philippe Pignarre of the creation of the publisher the Hinderers to think in round.

It is girl of the historian Jean Stengers (1922 - 2002).
