Isabelle Choinière

Isabelle Choinière is a Chorégraphe, performeuse, dancer and specialist in numerical arts Québécois, residing and working with Montreal.

Recognized by the local press and international like performeuse-visionary and pionnière of “cyber-modernity”, Isabelle Choinière proposes, since 1994, of strong and original works where the dance and the Web arts are based.

Choreographer, performeuse, analyst and artistic director of the company of dance and numerical arts the Body Index, Isabelle Choinière explores the physical and psychic limits natural body and synthetic body. Its modern choreographic language will draw from a multitude of gestural sources and integrates a reflection on time and space from where a widened and new design of the body emerges.

Formation

Passed initially by the rigorous school of the ballet dancing, it was then initiated with the concept of “new dance” by Deborah Hay. After collegial studies in sciences, it obtained in 1989 its baccalaureat in choreography of the Université Concordia of Montreal.

In spring 2004, Isabelle Choinière started a doctorate under the direction of Roy Ascott, directing founder of the Planetarium Collegium, within the framework of the Center for Advanced Inquiry in the Integrative Arts (CAiiA, Research center advanced in arts intégratifs) affiliated at the University of Plymouth (England).

Artistic project

Its artistic step is that of a reflection on the infiltration of the technological thought in current dance bringing to the creation of new choreographic models.

Anchored in a step of fusion of arts and disciplines, its work is based on a strategy of the renewal of the sensory experiment and perception; the technology of the 21e century opening the way with new forms of creations.

Its reflection and its research on the integration of the Web arts to the dance were largely recognized and were worth to him many invitations in several international events as well in Europe as in Latin America or with the Quebec, to present its creations but also as lecturer to explain the substance of it and to teach its step of it.

Works

Communion , final version of the Division of the skins , is a multidisciplinary performance where meet the current dance, it video, the computer graphics, the music electroacoustic and mixed as well as the interactive systems.
