Is! Is!! Is!!! di Montefiascone

Is! Is!! Is!!! di Montefiascone is an Italian wine of the area Latium equipped with a name DOC. since March 3rd, 1966. Only to DOC. the white wines collected inside the surface of production defined by the decree are entitled. The authorized vineyards are located in Province of Viterbe in the communes Bolsena, Capodimonte, Gradoli, Grotte di Castro, Marta, Montefiascone and San Lorenzo Nuovo. The production zone is close to the Lac of Bolsena. The surface planted in vine is of 416 hectares.

Inside the church San Flaviano de Montefiasco, are many frescos and the tomb stone of Jean Defuc († 1113), on which the legend of the wine is dependant. The legend wants that the German bishop Johannes Fugger (= Jean Defuc), belonging to the continuation of Henri V of the Holy roman Empire - which went to Rome to be made crown by the Pope - was to precede by a servant who was to locate the inns with the best wines, that it announced while marking on the door: Is!. Arrived at Montefiascone and after tastehaving tasted excel it local wine, it did not hesitate to write Is! Is!! Is!!! Defuc shared the tastes of its servant and is established definitively in the small town where he died in 1113.
