Irrigation channel will el-Hamra
Seguia will el-Hamra (Arab: سقيةالحمراء Saqiyat Al-Hamra (Red Channel)) is a valley in the north of the the Western Sahara, between the parallel 26e and 27°50'. The town of Boujdour is used to divide the areas. Its capital is Laâyoune (El Aaiún), and also includes the town of Smara.
It is, with Rio de Oro, one of the two territories which formed the Spanish province the Spanish Sahara after 1969. The name Saqiyat Al-Hamra comes from the name of the channel which crosses the capital.
This area makes approximately 82.000 km.
The historical territory of Saguia will el-Hamra is included/understood in two Moroccan administrative areas:
- Guelmim-Es Smara (is)
- Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia el Hamra (western)
