Iron Butterfly
Iron Butterfly is an rock group created in 1966 with San Diego, on the west coast of the the United States.
Biography
They sign at ABG records (a division of Atlantic Records) in 1967 and leave their first album Heavy the same year.In July 1968 leaves In-HAVe-Gadda-Da-Emptied , at the time a disc 33 turns including/understanding a piece of 17:05 minutes which gives the title of the album.
The reception is phenomenal. The disc exceeds all the other albums in the history of the music as of the first year of sale, with 8 million copies. From its exit, In-HAVe-Gadda-Da-Emptied was sold to 30 million specimens, which makes of it the first platinum disc of the history of the music. It will be then “multi-platinum”.
Musicalement, the piece headlight is characterized by a front particularly effective and entêtant, a succession of different beaches, and very long and very made a success of solo of battery in the middle of the piece.
The origin of the title is dubious, Doug Ingle entrusted that it was about a phonic deformation of the sentence In the garden off Eden created under the effect of LSD.
Technically, the sound is rather poor. According to the review Mix magazine (1998), the catch would have been made during a kind of turn of heating of the musicians, who did not consider that it was about a catch intended for the recording. They would have always regretted the quality of this catch.
In-HAVe-Gadda-Da-Emptied marked many spirits. Certain passages, like the recovery after the solo of battery, were used like jingles of radio transmissions. The piece is used as gag in an episode of the Simpson, where Bart replaces the partition of the organist by that of the piece of Iron Butterfly, obliging the unhappy one to play 17 minutes of at a stretch, before falling exhausted. He is heard in many films, etc He was very recently samplé by Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas for the piece Hip-hop is dead of Nas on his last album bearing the same name.
In spite of these impressive figures, except for Doug Ingle, which holds the rights on the piece, it seems that the majority of the musicians of the group did not make fortune. The pop music discovered the massive sales.
At the musical level, some critical (as in the review Rolling Stones ) qualify Iron Butterfly of first group of heavy metal . If the essence of the production were rather directed psychedelic, their very metal sound really influenced a certain number of other groups, the such Grateful Dead, and the Doors (topic with the organ of Light My Fire… ). Others will classify them in the Indies .
Iron Butterfly will leave then several other albums, which accepted a reception definitely more measured.
