Irissarry
Irissarry is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.
Its Basque name is Irisarri which means " Field in the fourrés" ( iri = field and Sari or Sasi = filled - according to Mr. Orpustan, professor of university and writer). Another significance would be " Field of cognassiers".
Geography
Irissarry is a small village of approximately 750 inhabitants, located in a valley in the middle of the Basque Country, at an altitude of 225m.The village is dominated by the Mont Baïgura (897m) and is located between Hasparren, Saint-Jean-Foot-of-Port and Saint-Etienne-with-Baïgorry.

History
Birth of Irissarry as well as the construction of the commandery " Ospitalea" and from its oratory date from the 12th century, about the year 1150. At the origin, commandery of Jerusalem, " Ospitalea" became towards 1530 commandery of Malta.
In 1350, Irissarry counted 23 houses. Except two, all belonged and depended on the commandery where the lord acted of administrator and sovereign.
In 1607, the commander of Irissarry, Martin de Larrea undertook the rebuilding of Ospitalea (hospital) and made at the time, the most beautiful building of Navarre. The oratory was then built and became the church of St Jean Baptiste current of which a part with the characteristic to be paved tombstones. The church was deeply transformed into 1860.
In 2002, the commandery " Ospitalea" repurchased by the department of the Pyrenees Atlantique will open a Center of Education to the Inheritance which will accommodate many school complexes or different.
