Irigny
Irigny is a common French, located in the department of the the Rhone and the area the Rhone-Alps.
Geography
History
Until 1789, the Archevêque of Lyon was the lord of Irigny. In 1790, the first mayor names Pierre Guillot.
There remains two turns of the Château of Irigny, built by Renaud de Forez, archbishop of Lyon (1193 - 1226). One of them shelters the municipal Bibliothèque.
With the beginning of the year 1946 the municipality with created a " Committee for Bezange" to come to assistance of the Bezange-the-Small commune of to Lorraine which had been heavily touched by the combat of the Release in September 1944. Irigny was one of the first communes of France to have offered such a sponsorship. It was commemorated in 1997 in Irigny and 1999 in Bezange.

Personalities related to the commune
- the Abbé Pierre passed his childhood there. The Municipal council of Irigny gave the name " Pierre" abbot; in the place of the church of Irigny. The new place Pierre Abbot, as well as a memorial, were inaugurated on September 1st, 2007, in the presence of many inhabitants, of the political authorities and nuns, des¨membres and persons in charge of the Emmaüs Community, Lyons scouting and nephews and nieces of the Pierre abbot, of which some always reside at Irigny.
