Irene of Hungary

Piroska or Irene (or Eirene) of Hungary († August 13rd 1134) was a Byzantine empress.

Girl of the king Ladislas {{Ier}} of Hungary, it was married with the Byzantine Empereur Jean II Comnène in 1104. She changes her Hungarian name of Piroska for Irene at this time.

Very pious, she lived simply with the Large palace. She and Jean II - very pious him also - founded many monasteries of which in particular that of Pantocrator Christ to Constantinople.

She had eight children of which the future emperor Manuel {{Ier}}.

She was canonized and is celebrated the August 13rd.
