The team of Ireland gained the Five Nations tournament 1983, with equality with the team of France, by gaining three victories and while losing against the team of Wales. Ireland also gained the tournament in 1982 and 1985.

Sixteen players contributed to this success, under the control of their captain, Ciaran Fitzgerald.
