Iraqi Islamic party

The Iraqi Islamic party ( Hizb Al-Islami Al-Airaqi ) is an Arab political party Sunnite Islamique in Iraq. It was founded in 1960 and is resulting from the movement of the Muslim brothers. It was clandestine time of Saddam Hussein.

The current general secretary of the party is Tareq Al-Hachemi; before July 2004, it was Dr. Mohsen Abdel Hamid, which took part in the Government council of Iraq (IGC) which worked with the provisional allied Autorité .

The November 9th 2004 the PII had disunited Iraqi temporary Gouvernement to protest against the attack by the forces united against Fallûja. However, the minister resulting from the party, Hajim al-Hassani, had remained in the government and had left the party.

The PII had boycotted the elections January 30th 2005 after having contributed to their preparation, but its members did not refuse any participation in the elections of the regional governments (for example for the elections in the province of Ninawa and that of Al-Anbâr).

The PII led a campaign to large scale against the constitution for the referendum of the October 15th 2005. But two days front, the party changed watchword, in favor thus of the " oui" , following an agreement with the members of the transition government according to which the news National Assembly elected in December 2005 would have to make certain amendments in 2006.

The PII thus also took part in these elections of the December 15th 2005 within the framework of the coalition of the Front of Iraqi agreement, which obtained 44 seats, which is best success among all the Arab coalitions sunnites.

However, the PII had been criticized by certain Arab politicians sunnites (for example, the chief of Al-Qaida in Iraq, Abou Moussab Al-Zarqaoui) for his participation in the political process in Iraq.
