Iranian presidential election of 2005

The Iranian presidential Election of 2005 , the ninth presidential election of the Iranian history, took place on two lathes, the 17 and June 24th 2005.

The election led to the victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the preserving mayor of Teheran, with 19,48% of the votes to the first turn and 61,69% with the second turn. Rate of participation was of 60%.

Mohammad Khatami, old the President of Iran, left its functions the August 2nd 2005, after having served its maximum of two consecutive mandates, as envisages it the Constitution of Iran.

The first turn of the election was very tight with tiny differences in the number of the voices gained by each candidate. The second round was held between the former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Ahmadinejad. The candidates were seven to clash with the first turn, whereas more than 1000 candidates were disqualified by the Conseil of the Guards (which has the capacity to put its veto at all the candidates for elected stations). Rafsandjani, which was the favorite, was beaten with the second turn by Ahmadinejad. The candidate reformist Mostafa Moi' N finished in the fifth place of the first turn.
