Iranian Azerbaïdjan

The Iranian Azerbaïdjan is an area located at the North-West of the Iran, which comprises several historical big cities of this country like: Maragheh, Tabriz, Zanjan, Ardabil, Urumieh. Iranian Azerbaïdjan is populated from 13 to 30 million turco-Azeris (according to the estimates of the Iranian government in the first case, and of the Azeri nationalists in the second). This territory is divided today into several provinces ( Ostan into Persan) as the Azerbaijan-e-sharghi (of the east), of the Azerbaijan-e-gharbi (of the west), the Province of Ardabil, the Province of Zanjan and most of the provinces of Hamadān and Qazvin. Iranian Azerbaïdjan constitutes most of historical Azerbaïdjan which is divided into two entities at the time of the first decade of the XIXe century between Iran and the imperial Russia. Since antiquity this part of Iran is populated by a branch of Turkish. The Safavides which dominated Iran during three century bright are same tribe.
