Iran Khodro

Iran Khodro (in Persan: RTL F ایرانخودرو, Automobile of Iran ) is a large car manufacturer Iran IEN, who provides vehicles as well on the national market as to export. It dominates its domestic market, in front of Saipa, Karsan.

History

This company was founded in 1962 by two brothers, Ali Akbar Khayami and Mahmoud Khayyami, under the name of Iran National , name which it was to preserve until the Islamic revolution, in 1979. It is a public company.

Iran Khodro maintains the relations between long time and the company PSA Peugeot Citroen and carries out the assembly of many models Peugeot under license of this French company. It also assembles Camion S and Autobus under license Mercedes-Benz.

During more than three decades, the company produced the Iranian car par excellence, the Peykan. This production was stopped in 2005.

The industry group Iran Khodro regards itself as the largest car manufacturer of the the Middle East and North Africa, with an annual production from approximately 1.000.000 of vehicles, Voiture S, Autocar S, Autobus, Camion S and utility S confused. This figure places the company among the first twenty car manufacturers in the world.

Production

Iran Khodro produced 514.000 vehicles in 2006, among:

  • Peykan, certified copy of the Chrysler Hillman Hunter.

Model tested by the years, Peykan became the symbol of Iranian auto industry. Its production ceased today, and Iran Khodro launched Samand to give to succeed and give a new face to him to the local car.

The 206 will not be produced any more in the long term in Europe, but its continuous career in the countries developed in particular in Iran, where it was introduced in 2004. It will also undergo a restylage. A version tricorps, named 206 Sedan, was developed between Iran Khodro and Peugeot and was launched in January 2006.

Peugeot Pars is Peugeot 405 restylée (calenders and rear lights) especially for the Iranian market, since the 405 is not produced any more in Europe since 1995. A version limousine, named Leave 2000, also exists. This car was proposed during the meeting of the Organization of the Islamic conference in 1999 at Teheran, being used to accommodate the international leaders, to replace Mercedes official since Iran was then in diplomatic cold with the Germany.

Partnerships

GAS

Since 2006, Iran Khodro produced for the Russian manufacturer minibuses and utility Gazelle-Sobol bound for the Iranian market. The objective is of 12.000 units per annum and 50% of market shares.

Mercedes-Benz (group DaimlerChrysler)

Production of the E350 model.

Co-operation with the heavy trucks subsidiary company of the Iranian group, Iran Khodro Diesel, for the assembly of trucks since 1963.

Peugeot (group PSA)

Iran Khodro produces the 405 since 1990, then Leave it (model restylée of the 405) since 1999, also declined in the limousine.

Since March 2001, Iran Khodro assembles of Peugeot 206, with the objective to export towards the adjoining countries but also in Eastern Europe.

In March 2004, a new turning is taken between the two companies. PSA is committed to introduce the 307, with restyler the 206 and developing a version tri-body of it.

This partnership consists of the importation of spare parts then to the local assembly of Peugeot models. In 2004, these were 281.000 Peugeot vehicles which were produced, for a market of 780.700 units.

Renault

Iran Khodro produced and markets since 2007, in association its compatriot Saipa, Renault Tondar 90, more known under the name of Logan. Production capacity is of 150.000 units per annum (idem for Saipa).

The framework of this partnership is Renault Pars, held with 51% by Renault, and 49% by consortium AIDCO, joining together Iran Khodro and Saipa, as well as Industrial Development and Renovation Organization.

Expansion

After having a long time intended its production for the Iranian market, Iran Khodro launched out these last years in a true policy of world expansion, in particular bound for the developed countries, with modest objectives of assembly. Thus one finds the Iranian manufacturer at the auto show of Addis-Abeba for example.

Currently these plans are with the state of projects or under development, of which some must be confirmed and concretized.

Iran Khodro ambitionne to export 100.000 vehicles at the beginning of 2008.

Factory constructions

The difficult relations between the Iran and the Venezuela on the one hand, with the the United States on the other hand, brought closer the two countries politically but also economically. Thus Iran Khodro announced in September 2006 the production in Venezuela of 10.000 trucks Samand with name TURPIAL.

It is the same for the Bielorussia with 6.000 Samand per annum (objective in the long term: 30.000), as well as the Syria where the factories started production, and for the Sudan where a line of assembly for 20.000 Samand will be established. These the last two countries do not have auto industry, main road or foreign.

Announced in November 2006, Iran Khodro will establish an production unit of Samand in the town of Thiès, with the Senegal. The joint venture, SenIran Car, are held to 60% by the Iranian manufacturer and 40% by Senegalese investors (the government has 20% of the actions). The factory should start production at the beginning of 2008, for an annual capacity of 5.000 vehicles then 10.000. Iran Khodro, thanks to a competitive price, thus wishes to satisfy the local market of the taxis, whose vehicles are often breathless.

Commercial establishments

In February 2007, Iran Khodro announces its intention to export Samand in Ouzbékistan, main market of Central Asia. The company has distributers in Bulgaria, Russia, Arménie, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Azerbaïdjan, Turkey, Turkménistan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Algérie, Egypt.
