Iran Air

Iran Air ایرانایر (Code AITA: IR ; Code ICAO: WILL GO ) is the national Airline company of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran Air is founded in 1944 and accomplishes its first flight between Teheran and Mashhad (north-eastern of Iran) shortly after the second world war. Iran Air begins its activity as a private company until in 1960 date on which it amalgamates with another private company Pars Airways , to become the Iranian national company.

Its acronym in Persan is then HOMA for National Airline company of Iran . The company has as an emblem the Iranian mythical bird Homa .

After the introduction of the Islamic Republic in 1979, the name of the company becomes Airline company of the Islamic Republic of Iran . The acronym does not correspond any more to the new name but the logo and the Homa nickname nevertheless are preserved.
