The iotacism (term formed starting from the Greek ἰῶτα iôta , “the letter I ”) is a phonetic Modification consistent in the transformation of a Phonème, generally a Voyelle, in.
Iotacism of the Greek
Between the Ve and the IIIe century before the Christian era, the vowel system of the old Greek changed considerably. Whereas the traditional language included/understood many Voyelle S and Diphtongue S, their stamps tended to be closed more and more so that they reach all that of, that these vowels kept in Greek modern.
The vowels concerned are the following ones:
Iotacism like interference of pronunciation
Of a speaker who confuses several phonemes with the advantage of /i/, one will say that its diction is reached of iotacism. It is, for example, the case of speakers of a foreign language in which the /y/ phoneme of the u' is not absent, phoneme which they often carry out /i/ (and, indeed, are very close and differ in French only by the district, being all the same former). A word as fabric /tisy/ will be then marked /tisi/. The iotacism constitutes one of the phonetic evolutions which take place between the French and its various Creoles.
The stylistic process
In addition, a Allitération in /i/ could also be named iotacism . It can be there a desired stylistic effect, a Tautophonie particular to bring closer to the Mytacisme and Lambdacisme.
