Ionian islands
The Ionian islands (in Greek Ιόνια νησιά ) is an archipelago of the Ionian Mer located at the North-West of the Peloponnese, the west of the Macedonia and the south-west of the Albania. They are a Greek territory today.
The islands Ioniennes are made up of seven principal islands close to the Western coasts of the Greece.
The vegetation is abundant with forests thanks to a soft and relatively wet climate.
The Ionian Islands are a administrative area (or periphery) of Greece. It gathers six of the principal islands of the archipelago which gives him its name, the six which is at broad Western coast of the country: Corfou, Paxos, Ithaque, Céphalonie, Leucade and Zante. The island of Cythère, located at the south of the Peloponnese, is attached to the periphery of the Attique.

April 2nd 1800 with the July 20th 1807, the Ionian islands, an old Venetian dependence which had just been successively occupied by the revolutionary France and by the forces Russo - Othoman, become a protectorate Russo-Othoman under the name of “State heptanésien” (of the Seven Islands). In 1941 - 43 there was a Italian Occupation , followed by a German occupation , during which the Jewish population is off-set and destroyed, then the islands return to Greece.
