Ionian Sea

The sea Ionienne is part of the Mediterranean.

Geography

It separates the Italian Péninsule and the Sicily in the west, of the Albania and the Greece in the east. It is connected to the Tyrrhenian Sea by the Détroit of Messine and to the Adriatic Sea by the Canal of Otranto.

It gave their name to the islands Ioniennes, Archipel of islands off Albania of the South and Greece.

This sea includes/understands the Golfe of Tarente in Italy of the South.

History

In the Antiquity, the Greek colonists passed by the sea Ionienne to go in Grande Greece (the Italian peninsula).
