honourable the Iona Campagnolo C.P., C.M., O.B.C (born the October 18th 1932) is a political woman Canadian and current the Lieutenant-governor E of the Colombia-British.

Biography

Born on the Island Galiano, it launches out in policy in 1966 when it is elected municipal adviser of Prince Rupert (Colombia-British). In 1974, it turns to the federal policy and is candidate with the House of Commons under the banner of the Liberal party in the district of Skeena. It gains the election and in 1976 the Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau names it at its Council of Ministers at the post of minister of the Sport amateur. It loses its seat at the time of the election of 1979 which involves the fall of the government of Trudeau.

In 1982, it becomes president of the Liberal party of Canada, a mainly administrative station. At the time of the congress of nomination which saw the election of John Turner at the post of head of the party, Campagnolo creates a small controversy within the Party when she declares that the candidate of second place, Jean Chrétien, is “  second in the results of votes, but first in our coeurs  ”.

When John Turner becomes liberal chief in 1984, a television camera collects the image of Turner giving a small slap on the buttocks of Campagnolo. Even if Campagnolo itself does not make of it history (indeed, it returns the similar one to him), the incident is used to depict Turner as being disconnected from contemporary female realities.

Campagnolo is candidate with the House of Commons in the election of 1984, but is demolished in the tidal wave progressist-conservative which carries Brian Mulroney to the capacity, leaving only 40 seats to the liberals of Turner. It is represented with the presidency of the party only at the time of the next liberal congress in 1986.

In 2001 it is named lieutenant-gouverneure of the Colombia-British by the general gouverneure Adrienne Clarkson on the council of the Prime Minister Jean Chrétien; it is the first woman with being named at this station.
