Interprofessional trade union of workers and workers

The interprofessional Syndicat of workers and hard-working ( SIT ) is a Syndicat Genevese which gathers workers of all branches and professional sectors. It is the only trade union to gather employees of the private sectors and public.

History

The first two Christian trade unions of Geneva, that of the office and bank clerks, then that of the workers of needle (dressmakers, etc) are created in July 1921, then gathered within the Fédération of the Christian trade unions of Geneva in 1923 with others lately created.

In the Years 1930, the FSCG, like other Christian trade unions of the Latin cantons, recommends the doctrines of the corporatism which will be abandoned in 1947, so much because of its maladjustment to the modern economic system than of its aspect infréquentable Fascism also claiming corporatism.

The FSCG then will approach the labor movement " social-démocrate" and of the left parties (all while maintaining its independence political): launching of joint initiatives, participation in the unit May 1st, creation of the Gathering for an industrial relations policy of housing.

The FSCG takes part in the Années 1970 and 1980 of a movement of " restoration syndicale" who aims at making the trade unions more combative and closer to the workers.

In 1985, after long debates, the Federation of the Christian trade unions of Geneva decides once again to change name. It is the third time. But this one will be most radical since it is a question of removing the Christian reference of the name of the trade union, like had made in France the CFDT in 1964. The FSCG thus becomes the SIT.

The shown will of an interprofessional organization is at that time original, since is only since the Années 2000 that regroupings of interprofessional nature are done, to take into account the sectoral mobility of the employees.
