One of the important points of the argument relates to the exile forced of the inhabitants of the island of Diego Garcia in 1971 with the British forces and American towards Maurice and the Seychelles to make place with the construction of an American military base. In 2000 Chagosiens exiled and their descendants were made grant British nationality. The argument always continues because Chagosiens were still not authorized to turn over on their territory, in spite of the expiry of the lease given to the Americans. In September 2004, the Prime Minister Mauritian, Paul Bérenger threatened to withdraw the adhesion of Maurice to the Commonwealth.
