History

In 1985, the International one of Lotto-Quebec Fires sees the day with the Round , the largest amusement park of the Quebec. Success is not made wait; the evenings of fires of artifices, more than 5,7 million people move for this big first. After such a success, the organizers decide to repeat the contest the following year. Since, this festival returns each summer for the greatest happiness of the amateurs of the great area montréalaise and the tourists of all sources.

To the beginning, the contest presents two types of spectacles; traditional fires without music and pyromusicaux fires where the explosion of the parts pyrotechnics is carefully synchronized with a musical screen. Since 1987, all the fires presented with the Round are of pyromusical type.

The contest little by little cut a place at the top of the industry of the Pyrotechnie and the best firms of the world now aim Montreal to reach the highest distinction in their field. During the sixteen years of the contest, the spectators could applaud representatives of 19 country of everywhere throughout the world. In all, 46 different firms took part in the competition and they launched a total of 141 fireworks in 16 years!

Jupiters

Trophés which is given each year with gaining name Jupiters. Three gaining are decreed and receive bronze and money, gold Jupiters. The jupiters became prestigious symbols within industry pyrotechnics, a mark of unequalled recognition for the prizes winner. The reference of the trophy comes from the Roman mythology in which Jupiter seems the god of the sky, the diurnal light and the elements such as the lightning or the thunder.

Criteria of evaluation

The criteria of evaluation are the following:

Quality of the parts: width, the luminosity and richness of the colors during the deployment of the parts pyrotechnics

Synchronization: the precision of simultaneity enters the music, the sound effects and the elements of artifice

Design pyromusicale: the quality and originality of the artistic concept, the musical choice and the setting in scene

general Appreciation: the general appreciation of the whole of the service pyromusicale.

Art pyromusical

Synchronization pyromusicale is an art which is controlled with the experiment. The firms which take part in the contest have necessary competences to be distinguished at the top from art pyromusical. The bomb disposal experts who imagine 30 minutes pyromusicaux fires are not simple bomb disposal experts, they are artistic originators.

The fires presented to Montreal are the subject often of a starting synopsis from which the originator chooses his music. The musical choice determines the rate/rhythm and the direction which the artist wants to give to his fire. The crucial stage then consists in selecting the parts pyrotechnics according to their characteristics esthetics and technique. It is not enough to retain a gilded bomb or a Roman candle, it is important to take account of the seconds or fractions of a second between its deployment and the firing of a part. To develop a shot-firing pattern 30 minutes thus requires hours and work hours.
