International ludic Festival of Parthenay

The community of communes of Parthenay accommodates the International Ludic Festival of Parthenay (FLIP), called also more simply the Festival of the Plays of Parthenay. This festival lasts twelve days in the open air in July, of one Wednesday to Sunday, one week and half later for FLIP “of summer” , and two days in weekend in space covered at the end of November for FLIP “of winter” .

FLIP “of summer” is one of the greatest festivals of plays in the world (as a frequentation, probably the second behind the living room of Essen in Germany) and most important in France. As an indication, here some figures of frequentation announced by the organizer:

  • 25.000 people as of the first edition in 1986 over eight days this year,
  • 70.000 in 1993 over sixteen days,
  • 100.000 in 1999 always over sixteen days,
  • 120.000 in 2003 over twelve days,
  • 130.000 in 2004 over twelve days,
  • 140.000 in 2005 over twelve days.
In 2006, the frequentation was in fall. One speaks about 80.000 to 100.000 people.

As comparison, the other important festival of plays in France, the International festival of the plays of Cannes (FIJ) accommodated in 2006 a little more than 50.000 people over six days.

The Festival takes seat on all the commune of Parthenay; various villages are assembled, there is for all the tastes and all the ages:

  • Village of the plays of simulation
  • Village of the plays multimedia
  • Village of the ludic discoveries

Animations are in their quasi totality free and the plays available: one presents oneself, one asks for a play and they left, only some contests require a few euros (some competitions on levels regional, national or international). The framing of the festival is voluntary and professional, of many partners unite at the organization, associations of plays, editors of plays, creators of plays, general advice, regional…

FLIP also gives place to some handing-over of price: Trophy Flip.
