International festival of the cartoon of Angouleme

The international festival of the cartoon of Angouleme , more commonly called festival of Angouleme , is the principal festival of French-speaking Cartoon and the most important European festival, in term of notoriety and cultural radiation. It takes place the every years in January since 1974. For the occasion, the city is strewn with " bulles" (capitals), where various activities are held and where are present various actors of the data base:

History

All begins fine 1972, with an exposure entitled Ten million images . It is a success. Editors, booksellers, draftsmen and readers live fifteen days of euphoria. The municipality of Angouleme then decides the creation of a Living room: the first edition is inaugurated on January 25th 1974. Hugo Pratt sign the poster. Ball Hogarth, Harvey Kurtzman, Maurice Tillieux, André Franquin… honor the newborn with their presence…

Decreed rewards

The Trophée S rewarding the albums according to various categories were the Alfred of 1974 with 1988 (in the honor of the Manchot of Zig and Puce) and became Alph' Art of 1989 with 2003 (in reference to the last unfinished album of Hergé). In parallel, other prices were, until in 2004, decreed at the time of the festival, but by others jurys. A new denomination arrived at the time of the edition in 2004: Official Prices of the Festival (Price of the best album, Price of the drawing, Price of the scenario, Price of the first album, Price of the series, Price of the inheritance of the cartoon…).

As from 2007, the Festival, in order to improve the legibility of its prices, decrees a Price of the best album, and six prices “the Essential ones of Angouleme” among a selection of 42 albums. The price “Inheritance” is allotted to the best republication among 8 titles.

The Grand Prix of the Town of Angouleme reward a French or foreign author for the whole of its work; its prize winner is usually president of the jury the following year.
