International festival of music of Wissembourg
The International festival of Music of Wissembourg is a festival of Classical music devoted primarily to the Piano and the Chamber music.
It takes place in the Midsummer's Day church of Wissembourg, in the north of the the Low-Rhine, the beginning of September, in the form in 11 concerts following one another during 11 days.
The first edition of the International festival of Music of Wissembourg had place in 2005, date of its creation by Hubert Wendel, musical director, and attracts consequently more than 1500 music lovers each year, come mainly from Alsace, Île-de-France and Germany (the festival is at less than 2 km of the Franco-German border).
Since the year 2006, the festival returns to each edition homage to a musician out of the commun run:
- the French organist Pierre Vidal in 2006
- the German leader Wilhelm Furtwängler in 2007
Famous artists are regularly invited to the International festival of Music of Wissembourg, such as:
- the pianists Finghin Hakes, Nicolas Stavy, Peter Laul and Dominique Merlet
- the violoncellist Marc Coppey
- the Quartet Ebony, the Quartet Benaïm and the Quartet Artemis
