History

Creation

The real birth of the International federation of Yoga goes back to 1987, in Montevideo in Uruguay under the name of International federation of Professors Professionnels of Yoga. It became in 2001 the International federation of Yoga.

Founding members

At the origin, the idea came from the Master of Yoga French - the Swami Asuri Kapila founder of Ramana Ashram (1934) and direct disciple of Ramana Maharshi.
C' is into 1935 that Swami Asuri Kapila (Cesar Della Rosa Bendio), introduced in Uruguay, and a few years after in Argentina and in Brazil, a teaching of Hatha Yoga, Yoga, Shankya, Shivaïsme of the Cashmere, Ayurveda and Bouddhisme.
Swami Asuri Kapila is the founder:

  • of the National school of Yoga of Uruguay (become in 1985 Association Uruguyan of Yoga),

  • of Ramana Ashram
  • of Maha Bodhi Shanga.

Swami Asuri Kapila studied yoga with Ramana Maharshi, Swami Annamalai, the trika yoga with Swami Vidyadhar (Shivaïsme of the Cashmere), Yoga Integral with Sri Aurobindo (in India, French ex-counter, in Pondichery). It obtains the disha of Swami Vishwananda and the confirmation of Swami Chandrashekhara Bharati and Shankaracharya de Sringeri Peetham.
Swami Asuri Kapila studied Buddhism with Anagarika Dhampala (David Hewavitharana) and LAMA Lobsang Dorje (Tibet). He was a friend of Alexandra David-Néel, Felix Guyot, Lucien Ferrier and Swami Sevananda (Leo Alvarez Costet de Mascheville) president Suddha Dharma Mandalam Internationale.

In 1970 Krishna Kisore Dasji (Delhi) created World council of Yoga and after Swami Gitananda (Pondichery) World parliament of Yoga.

Creation of the organizations members of the Federation

International

In 1970 Krishna Kisore Dasji (Delhi) will create World council of the Yoga and after Swami Gitananda (Pondicherry) the World parliament of Yoga.

In 1987 Of Rose is elú president of the International federation of Professors Professionnels of Yoga. In 1989 the successor of Swami Asuri Kapila and Krishna Kisore Dasji: Yogacharya Dr. Estevez Griego (swami Maitreyananda) is elected president of the International federation of Yoga (International federation of Professors Professionnels of Yoga), and Mataji Indra Devi are elected honorary presidents. In 1992 Yogacharya Krishna Kisore Dasji (Indie) becomes president of the International federation of Yoga (International federation of Professors Professionnels of Yoga)

In Europe

In 1948 Lucien Ferrer founds in Paris the Western Academy of yoga. With its death, in 1964, it is Roger Clerc which succeeds to him to continue its teaching.

In addition, it occupies a long time the position of secretary general of the National federation of France, and creates in 1978 the Academy of the Yoga of Energy.

In 1972, in October, is founded the European Union of Yoga (UEY) by Claude Peltier, Roger Clerc, the Nile Hahoutoff, André van Lysebeth and Hug which becomes the first general secretary about it.

This Union organizes in 1973, under the impulse of Gerard Blitz his new general secretary, a first European meeting with Zinal, in Switzerland: 350 teachers coming from fifteen different countries took part in it. The topic was " Occident vis-a-vis the heritage of the yoga". Carlos Miguel Perez founds has Madrid the European Alliance of Yoga (AEY) and Yogmata Taraji L `European Federation of Yoga, Yogatherapie and Ayurveda.

In Asia

Dr. Gopalji founds has Delhi l´Union Asitique de Yoga (UAY) and the Confederation Indian of Yoga (CIY)

In Africa

Martin Mc Cormick creè African Alliance of Yoga (AAY)

On the American continent

In 1982 Rama Vernon in the United States creates Unity In Yoga become Ad hoc Yoga Alliance of the United States.

In October 1985, is founded the Latin-American Union of Yoga ULY (become in 2006 Latin-American Federation of Yoga) Yogacharya Dr. Estevez Griego (swami Maitreyananda) friendly of Gerard Blitz and successor of Swami Asuri Kapila, becomes the first Latin-American president of the Union of Yoga. Mataji Indra Devi is elected honorary president and Yogacharini Silvia Irigoyen (Swamini Dayananda My) general secretary.

In 2002-2005 the successor of Swami Asuri Kapila is Krishna Kisore Dasji: Yogacharya Dr. Estevez Griego (swami Maitreyananda) is elected president of International federation of Yoga. In 2006 Swami Dayananda My was elected president of the International federation of Yoga (2006-2008) and Swami Buaji the honorary president. The International federation of Yoga gathers the whole of associations and federations of yoga in the world.

Guru Dileepji founds the Northern Federation American of Yoga (New York) States-Units. Swami Buaji elected president D `honor.

After 20 years and more than 20 world conferences of yoga, many continental organizations of yoga are members of the International federation of Yoga in particular:

In 2006 Swami Dayananda My was elected executive president of the International federation of Yoga and Swami Buaji the honorary president.
