The International federation of the companies of oar (or FISA ) is an international organization who governs the competitions of Aviron. Its current president is Denis Oswald.

History

The FISA was created by oarsmen of France, Suisse, Belgium and of Italy on June 25th 1892 in answer to the growing popularity of the Régate S of oar, in order to standardize and regulate the distances from race, the compositions of boats, the categories (weight, age)…

At that time, of the bets were often taken on the results of the races. The oarsmen and trainers frequently took part in these bets, which could lead to some Corruption.

The first regatta of the FISA, in which all the participants were Amateur S, proceeded with Orta in Italy. 10 boats were engaged there in three races.

The head office of the FISA was established with Lausanne, in Suisse, starting from 1922.

The FISA is the international sporting organization oldest to take part in the Olympic Games.
