International federation of Volley ball

The International federation of volley ball is the association national federations having for vocation to manage and develop the Volley-ball at the planetary level. It is located at Lausanne in Suisse.

History

FIVB was creates in 1947 with Paris (France). With the crétion, there was not which 14 participating nations. Mr. Paul Libaud was the first president.

In 1964, CIO accepts volley ball like Olympic test. With time, the number of national federation affiliated to FIVB passes to 89 teams. Later in the year (1969), the World cup of volley ball was founded. That will become a ticket of qualification for the Olympic Games in 1991.

After retirement of Mr. Libaud and the election of the Mexican Rubén Acosta for the position of president in 1984, FIVB moves their district-general of Paris (France) to Lausanne (Suisse and intensifies the level to promote the Volley-ball on a world level. After measurements taken, one included an annual competition for the men and the women (the World League in 1990 and the Grand Prix in 1993).

In 2006, FIVB account 219 affiliated national federations.
