International counsel of the monuments and the sites

The International counsel of the monuments and the sites or ICOMOS ( International Council one Monuments and Sites ) is an worldwide association of professionals which devotes itself to the conservation and the protection of the monuments, the whole and the sites of the cultural heritage.

It is a nongovernmental international organization whose principal activity is to promote the theory, the methodology and technology applied to the conservation, protection and the development of the monuments and the sites. It is based on the international charter of 1964 on the conservation and the restoration of the monuments and the sites known as Charte of Venice .

Its members, with the number of more than 7000, are experts various countries and various disciplines : architects, historians, archeologists, historians of art, geographers, anthropologists, engineers and town planners.
