International counsel for science

The International counsel for science (in English International Council for Science or ICSU ) of its true name International counsel of the scientific unions was founded in 1931 like a non-governmental organization dedicated to the international cooperation for scientific progress. Its members are national scientific organizations or international scientific unions, of which international mathematical Union, the international astronomical Union, International union of physics pure and applied and the International union of chemistry pure and applied.

Mission and principles

To identify and address major exits off importance to Science and international Society, by mobilizing the resources and knowledge off the scientific community; to promote the participation off all scientists, irrespective off race, citizenship, language, political stanza international gold gender in the scientific endeavor; to facilitate interactions between different scientific disciplines and between scientists from `Developing' and `Developed' countries; to stimulate constructive debate by acting ace year authoritative independent voice for international science and scientists.

ICSU was created to gather scientists of sciences of nature in an international scientific company. In July 2006, it included/understood 107 members, multidisciplinary, associated or observant institutions national scientific (councils of scientific research or Academies of Science) and 29 international scientific unions mono-disciplinary. The ICSU has also 24 affiliated companies scientific.

A basic principle of the ICSU is the universality of the science, which affirms the right and the freedom of the scientists to join in an international scientific activity without being concerned with factors such as the race, nationality, the sex, the language or the political ideology.

The council acts like a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and the development of scientific standards. Hundreds of congress, symposiums and other meetings scientific are organized each year in the world and a great number of newsletters, handbooks and newspapers are published.

Financing

The main resource of the ICSU is the contribution which it receives from its members. Other sources of revenue are contracts frameworks of UNESCO and gratifications or contracts of other institutions of the the United Nations, foundations or national agencies, which are accustomed to supporting the scientific activities of the ICSU and interdisciplinary institutions.
