International contest Tchaïkovski

The international Concours Tchaïkovski is one of the contests of Classical music among most prestigious. Baptized in memory of the Russian type-setter Piotr Ilitch Tchaïkovski, it is held with Moscow every four years since 1958, year of its creation.

The first edition was reserved to the pianists and to violonists. In 1962, the contest is opened to the violoncellists and in 1966 with the song. No other discipline has had for summer allowed.

The contest, placed under the patronage of the Russian State Concert Company , is organized by a joining together committee of eminent personalities of the Russian musical world. Different the jurys international called to judge services and to designate the prizes winner is composed professors of academy, musical directors, soloists of reputation, sometimes of former prizes winner of the contest.

The eliminatory stages (three) proceed in June. Currently, 26 prices are decreed on the whole, six for each instrument and eight for the song (four for the men and four for the women). There was in the past up to eight prices allotted by discipline. According to the years, the first price (or a price of lower row) can not be decreed or divided between several candidates.

XIIIe edition of the contest was held in Moscow from June 12th to 30th 2007.
