International committee paralympic
The International committee paralympic ( CIP ) is the leading authority of the Handisport S practiced by handicapped athletes. The International committee paralympic is a non-profit organization which supervises the organization of the paralympic Jeux. It is comparable with the International Olympic committee (CIO), organizer of the Olympic Games.
The CIP was founded on September 22nd, 1989 with Düsseldorf in Germany to replace the International committee of coordination of the worldwide organizations of sport for the handicapped people which had been created in 1982.
The objectives of the International committee paralympic are:
- To supervise the organization of the paralympic Plays.
- To develop the movement paralympic
- To promote the sports paralympic and to allow handicapped to have access to these sports
- To contribute to a sporting environment complying with the rules and without doping
- To change the image of handicapped by arousing the interest of all for the Plays paralympic
The CIP includes/understands 160 national committees paralympic. It gathers 5 international sporting federations:
- the International federation of the sports in wheel chair
- the International federation of the sports for visually handicapped persons
- the International federation of the sports for handicapped people
- the International federation of sports and leisures for cerebral physically handicapped people
- the International federation of the sports for mental handicapped people
The paralympic specificity of the International committee is to represent several sports and several handicaps.
The general headquarter of the CIP is with Bonn in Germany.
The president of the International committee paralympic is Phil Craven, former captain of the English team of Basket-ball in wheel chair. He succeeded in 2001 Dr. Robert D. Steadward.
